Jim M2024-02-18Great place to disconnect and relax Probably one of the best places ever. Just returned and can't wait to go back. I love that the island is so natural and untouched. You will need to rent a car which wasn't a big deal. I have been twice now and summers are hot but nice and winter is in the 70's to 80's and can be breezy. Stayed in Coconut Bay
Mark2023-08-10Long Island Bahamas Long island is a beautiful out island! Wonderful people and great beaches! Flew in from Cat Island after a week there & spent a week on Long island. Would recommend Marty Fox with Island Wings for private charter. Recommended excursions would be- Deans blue hole, Columbus monument, Cape Santa Maria beach Max's Conch shack. Recommended restaurants- Stella Maris resort & moonstone bar, Cape Santa Maria resort, Eagles nesting, Tiny's hurrican hole & check out the busted bridge bar & grill, the owner is awsome!The hilltop market in the middle of the island is a geat place to buy groceries. Rent a car as everything is spread out and you will need it.
WildWonderfulWV3042023-03-16Visit Long Island Bahamas My family loves Long Island. It’s grown a bit in the eight years since our last visit. But still a laid back place with friendly people and incredible remote beaches. We wanted to give a shout out to Fiona’s Sweet Treats and Catering. Fiona is a nice lady and an excellent cook. We stayed at an AirBNB in the Stella Maris area. Fiona brought meals to our house three times. Each meal was better than the last. Fresh fried fish, peas and rice, Mac and cheese were all so good. Our best meal on the island was her curried fish and rice, conch fritters, coleslaw and steamed vegetables. Highly recommend you give Fiona a try. You can reach her at 242 557 1222. You won’t regret it!
Martin E2022-12-28The best little Bahamion secret Please do not come here and tell everybody how great it is! I want to keep coming back and have it stay just as it is...so perfect. Just kidding, go visit and enjoy...We have been three times in two years, and plan to keep coming back.
kayakerdiane2021-12-13Beautiful beaches and even more beautiful people Long Island is a special place with beautiful, uncrowded beaches and the loveliest local culture I've ever experienced. The local music scene is really fun and the guides and restaurateurs all were so friendly and solicitous. My favorite person there is a guide, Delbert Smith, who took us diving and was awesome. Be sure to take lots of cash to the island since a lot of businesses don't take credit cards and there are only two ATMs for the whole 80-mile-long island. When they run out of cash, you're stuck. Also, in future trips I'll bring good coffee. It's hard to find and after two weeks, I was jonesing for a good cup. Those shortcomings are easy to overcome for the experience of the islands, though.
pat d2021-08-27Peace and Quiet for sure Husband I went to Long Island July 9, -July 17, 2021. We had a nice quiet time. Island is lovely and safe. It is not a party island at all. If you want peace, quiet safety with nice beaches you can find it here. Food is expensive which is the case in the islands anyway.Vittorio2021-03-06Captain Yan! We just finished an action packed fishing excursion on the Jus 1 Danz, and it was Great! The boat was clean and well equipped, snacks were provided, the music was lovely, the hospitality even better, but most of all, the fish were plentiful. Captain Yan, is the man! Highly recommended.
M B2020-12-21Wonderful An amazing island; completely free of typical "tourist scene." If you love nature, this is the place to go. We would definitely go again. Tip for getting there and away: Learn from our mistake, DO NOT FLY SOUTHERNAIR CHARTER. Either use BahamasAir out of Stella Maris airport or pay for your own private charter. SouthernAir Charter cancels their flights and this is apparently a "known" thing. We didn't know this unfortunately. They canceled our return flight because they didn't sell enough tickets. As a result, we lost our last day of vacation as well as the money we'd paid for our rental house, and what should have been one 10-hour travel day home, was turned into two days of travel home with a nearly 24-hr stay on Nassau (a place we never wanted to go).

One Million Places2019-07-24Geheimtipp: Wunderschöne Insel, die touristisch noch nicht überlaufen ist Die Insel Long Island ist eine von über 700 Inseln der Bahamas und liegt etwa 265 km südöstlich der Hauptstadt Nassau. Die Insel ist 130 Kilometer lang und bis zu 6 Kilometer breit und macht damit ihrem Namen alle Ehre. Heute leben auf der Insel etwa 3.000 Menschen und etwa 3 bis 4 mal so viele Touristen besuchen die Insel jedes Jahr. Zum Vergleich: Diese Besuchermenge muss Nassau an einem Tag verkraften, wenn mehrere große Kreuzfahrtschiffe anlegen. Das heißt auch, dass Long Island touristisch noch nicht so weit erschlossen ist und sich daher perfekt für einen entspannten Urlaub eignet. Über die Insel verläuft von Seymour’s ganz im Norden bis nach Gordon’s im Süden die einzige Hauptstraße, der Queen’s Highway, der etwa 35 Siedlungen verbindet, die oftmals nur aus einer handvoll von Häusern bestehen. Der Highway teilt die Insel in zwei Hälften: Die dem Atlantik zugewandte Seite ist von Klippen geprägt, die schroff ins Meer abfallen, wohingegen die karibische Seite mit ihren weißen Sandstränden und dem türkisfarbenen Wasser auftrumpft. Gegensätzlicher könnten die Küsten nicht sein. Wir hatten uns einen Tag für die Erkundung der Insel eingeplant, um in Ruhe und ganz individuell die wichtigsten Punkte der Insel zu besuchen. Denn davon hat Long Island einiges zu bieten: Von traumhaften Sandstränden, über türkisblaue Buchten, tiefe Löcher im Meer bis hin zu einem spannenden Höhlensystem.
